Marcy and Her Friends (for children ages 7 12)
Marcy and Her Friends is a collection of short stories intended to assist parents and teachers in their efforts to help second through fifth graders deal with the vicissitudes of daily life. This series was specifically designed to help our children build self-esteem, since this is an important ingredient in developing personal strength and courage to say 'yes' to healthy choices in life, and 'no' to unhealthy ones.
How Marcy Came To Be
The first Marcy story was written to help my own second grader confront issues surrounding disorganization. The second story was created to help her deal with a classroom bully. That story was read by me to her class and received so well that it was followed, by popular demand, by twenty more. The series continued to develop as the wishes, fears, and frustrations of my daughter's classmates, (and of several teachers), were reflected by Marcy who handled the problems they inspired. The Marcy stories are intended to provide an interactive reading experience.
More About Marcy
Marcy is introduced to the reader as a disorganized, mild mannered, good-natured little girl who is clearly jealous of the attention her younger sister receives from their parents. Marcy quickly becomes a young lady dealing effectively with issues concerning organization, inattention, classroom bullies and both new and established friends. The reader sees how Marcy copes positively with jealousy, frustration and anger as they relate to the above situations.
